In front of a sold-out Leigh Sports Village crowd on Tuesday evening, Manchester United's Under-18 team defeated crosstown rivals Manchester City 2-1 to win the U18 Premier League Cup.

With only seven minutes remaining in the first half, a combination play from James Nolan and Ethan Wheatley set the tone and put an end to any pre-match anxiety.

After Utd scored the first goal, our opponents made a great effort to try and get back into the game. However, the same two players broke through their defense again, with Wheatley dribbling past the charging goalie to score his second of the match.

The second half was more low-key, with City defender Stephen Mfuni giving fans a late scare in the 84th minute with a header.

But it would turn out to be nothing more than a worry, and our young Reds came out on top, taking home the U18 Premier League Cup.
